Terms of Service
DRAFT for legal review. Not yet reviewed by a lawyer. Do not publish before legal review.
Version 2026-10-27. These are the same Terms shown in the Atlas app.
The key points
- Atlas is a training coach, not a vet. It never diagnoses, prescribes or gives doses, and it cannot see your dog.
- You are responsible for your dog and for everyone around it. Stop a session if your dog seems stressed, in pain or aggressive.
- Training and handling dogs carry risks such as bites, scratches and falls. You accept those risks when you train.
- Reward-based training only: never shock, prong or choke collars, and never physical punishment.
- Atlas Plus renews automatically until you cancel. Cancel at least 24 hours before a free trial ends if you do not want to pay.
- Our liability is limited as far as the law allows. Your rights as a consumer under the law are not affected.
- Your dog's training data is kept on our servers so it stays safe and syncs with the family members you invite. You can export or delete it at any time.
This summary is here to help. The full Terms below are what apply. See also the Privacy notice.
1. Agreement to these Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and [Atlas company legal name] ("Atlas", "we", "us") for the Atlas app, website and related services (the "Service"). By creating an account, ticking "I agree" or using the Service, you accept these Terms and our Privacy Notice. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
If you use Atlas for a business (for example a daycare, shelter or training school), you confirm that you may accept these Terms for that business, and "you" includes it.
2. Who can use Atlas
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher, to create an account. Younger family members may help with training only while supervised by an adult account holder, who is responsible for them.
Give accurate information, keep your login details safe and tell us promptly about any unauthorised use of your account. You are responsible for activity under your account.
3. What Atlas is, and what it is not
Atlas is an educational dog-training coach. It offers general information, training plans, demonstrations and reminders based on what you tell it. It is not a veterinarian, a veterinary service, a certified behaviour consultant or a substitute for professional, in-person advice.
Atlas does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any illness or condition, does not prescribe or recommend medicines or doses, and does not judge whether a dog is dangerous. Breed information describes general tendencies only; your dog is an individual.
Some text in the Service may be produced by automated systems, including artificial intelligence. Automated text can be incomplete or wrong. Safety steps in the app (such as ending a session) follow fixed rules, but no software can see your dog. Always use your own judgement.
Training results depend on your dog, your consistency and many things outside our control. We do not promise any particular result.
4. Health, medication and emergencies
Talk to your veterinarian before starting any training or exercise plan, especially if your dog is a young puppy, a senior, pregnant, injured, unwell, on medication, or has a history of pain, seizures or aggression. Never start, stop or change a medicine because of anything in Atlas.
Medication-aware features only change the shape of a session (shorter, calmer, more breaks) and prepare a summary for your vet. We do not review the Vet Report; it shows what you entered.
If your dog may be in danger (for example trouble breathing, collapse, seizures, suspected poisoning, heatstroke, a swollen belly or a serious injury), stop and contact a veterinarian or emergency clinic immediately. The emergency screen is a convenience only; helplines may charge fees and may not be available where you are.
5. Your responsibilities and safety
You are solely responsible for your dog, its care, its behaviour and its supervision, and for the safety of the people and animals around it, during training and at all other times.
Before each session, check that your dog is well, comfortable and in a safe place, away from traffic, hazards and extreme heat or cold. Stop straight away if your dog shows stress, pain, fear or aggression (for example growling, snapping, freezing, stiffening, hiding or heavy panting), and get professional help where appropriate.
Always supervise children around dogs and never leave a child alone with a dog, even a familiar one. Follow local laws, including leash, licensing, vaccination, noise and clean-up rules.
Use safe, well-fitted equipment and suitable food rewards. Check ingredients for allergies and never use foods that are toxic to dogs. You are responsible for choosing rewards that suit your dog's health and diet.
If your dog has bitten, or you are worried that it might, work with a qualified professional in person. Do not rely on Atlas alone.
6. Assumption of risk
Training and handling dogs involve risks that cannot be removed completely, including bites, scratches, falls, trips, strains and injury to people, animals or property, even when everything is done carefully. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you understand and voluntarily accept these risks when you train, exercise or handle a dog with the help of the Service.
7. Training methods
Atlas teaches reward-based methods. It never recommends shock, prong or choke collars, physical punishment or intimidation, and you agree not to use the Service to promote them. Puppies under six months are always trained with rewards only.
You must not use the Service to train dogs for fighting, attack or protection work, or in any way that is cruel or unlawful.
8. Subscriptions, free trials and payment
Stage 1 is free. Atlas Plus is a paid subscription, currently US$4.99 per month or US$29.99 per year. Prices can differ by country and may include or exclude taxes; the price shown before you buy is the price you pay.
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time: on iPhone and iPad in your Apple ID subscription settings, on Android in Google Play, and on the web in the app (Settings → Account → Manage subscription) or from your Atlas account page. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
An Atlas Plus subscription also covers the adults you invite to your family on Atlas, up to the number shown in the app, while they stay in your family. They lose this access if you remove them, if they leave, or when your subscription ends.
The yearly plan may include a 7-day free trial. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, it turns into a paid yearly subscription and you are charged the yearly price. One free trial per person.
Purchases made through the App Store or Google Play are processed by Apple or Google under their own terms, and they handle refunds for those purchases. Web payments are processed by our payment provider (Stripe); we never see or store your full card number. Except where the law requires otherwise, payments are non-refundable and we do not give credits for partly used periods.
We may change prices with advance notice. A new price applies from your first renewal after the notice, and you can cancel before it applies. Founding members who joined during our launch keep their launch price for as long as their subscription stays active without a break.
If a payment fails, we or the app store may try again, and paid features may pause until payment succeeds.
If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you may have a right to withdraw from a purchase within 14 days. If you ask to start using paid digital features straight away, you agree that this right ends once the service has started, to the extent the law allows.
9. Your content
You keep ownership of what you add to Atlas, such as your dog's details, notes, photos and screenshots ("Your Content"). You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, process and display Your Content only to run, protect and improve the Service, as described in the Privacy Notice and in line with the choices you make in Settings.
You confirm that you have the right to share Your Content and that it does not break the law or anyone's rights. Only add other people's personal details (for example a vet's or family member's contact details) when you are allowed to. We may remove content that breaks these Terms.
If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without any obligation to you.
10. Privacy
Our Privacy Notice explains what we collect, why and for how long. Your dog's training data is stored on our servers, with a copy on your phone, so it stays safe and can be shared with the family members you invite. You can review each consent, export your data and delete your account in Settings at any time.
11. Family sharing
You can invite other adults to your family on Atlas. People who join can see and add to your dog's plan, check-ins, logs and progress, and they see the first names of family members. Invite only adults you trust, and only people who have agreed to receive your invitation.
Everyone who joins must accept these Terms on their own device and is responsible for how they handle the dog during training. As the person who runs the family, you can remove members or cancel invites at any time; members can leave at any time. Children and teenagers may help with training only on an adult's device and under an adult's supervision.
12. Acceptable use
You agree not to: break any law; misuse, disrupt or overload the Service; try to get around security, paid features or limits; copy, scrape, reverse engineer or resell any part of the Service except where the law allows it; upload malware; impersonate anyone; harass anyone; or use the Service in a way that could harm animals or people.
13. Intellectual property
The Service, including the Atlas coach, curriculum, text, animations, demonstration videos, software, scoring methods, design and trademarks, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by law. We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use the app for your own non-commercial use (or your business's internal use under a business plan), subject to these Terms.
14. Third-party services
The Service may link to or rely on services we do not control, such as app stores, payment processors, maps, phone services and poison helplines. Their own terms apply, and we are not responsible for them.
15. Changes to the Service
We may add, change or remove features. We will give notice of changes that significantly reduce what a paid subscription includes, and you may cancel if you do not want to continue.
16. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, non-infringement, or that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure. Some places do not allow these exclusions, so some of them may not apply to you.
17. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we and our directors, employees, contractors and partners are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data or goodwill, or the cost of substitute services, arising from or related to the Service or these Terms.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any injury, illness, death, damage or loss involving any dog, person or property that arises from training, handling, exercise, food, rewards, equipment or information, including information you followed in the Service.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims arising from or related to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim, or US$50.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, such as liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence where that cannot be excluded, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
18. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless us and our directors, employees and contractors from and against claims, losses, damages, liabilities and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your dog's behaviour, your use of the Service, Your Content, or your breach of these Terms, of any law or of anyone else's rights.
19. Disputes and governing law
Please contact us first at [support email]: most concerns can be solved quickly. If we cannot resolve a dispute informally within 60 days, the following applies.
These Terms are governed by the laws of [State or Province, Country], without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
For users in the United States: you and we agree to resolve any dispute arising from or related to the Service or these Terms by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court, except that either of us may bring an individual claim in small-claims court, and either of us may ask a court to stop misuse of intellectual property. Claims may be brought only individually, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective or representative proceeding, and the arbitrator may not combine claims of different people. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing [support email] within 30 days of first accepting these Terms.
If you are a consumer in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another place whose laws let you bring claims in your local courts or rely on local consumer protection, nothing in these Terms takes those rights away.
20. Suspension and termination
You may stop using Atlas and delete your account at any time in Settings. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, if the law requires it, or to protect people, animals or the Service. Sections that by their nature should continue (such as ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity and disputes) continue after termination.
21. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we will tell you in the app or by email before it applies and, where required, ask you to agree again. The version date at the top shows the latest version. If you keep using the Service after a change applies, you accept the updated Terms; if you do not agree, stop using the Service and cancel any subscription.
22. Apple and Google
If you downloaded Atlas from Apple's App Store: these Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it, and is not responsible for any claims relating to the app or your use of it (including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance and intellectual property claims). If the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, which may refund the price you paid for the app (if any); to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo and are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
If you downloaded Atlas from Google Play, Google's terms for Google Play also apply to your purchases and downloads there.
23. General
These Terms and the Privacy Notice are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we do not enforce a right, we have not waived it. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms; we may transfer ours to a successor (for example in a merger or sale of the business) and will tell you if that happens. We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control. If these Terms are translated, the English version applies where the law allows.
